Index Fungorum - Species Fungorum contains data on synonymy other than the globally
complete data sets at generic level contained in GSDs.
Index Fungorum contains data on homotypic (nomenclatoral) synonyms whilst Species
Fungorum contains data on heterotypic (taxonomic) synonyms, both contributed from
many acknowledged sources.
Many homotypic synonyms are linked together through the basionym record; this
will be complete by the end of 2004. A link to the known list of homotypic synonyms
is displayed on the Index Fungorum Record Details page for a basionym record.
An increasing number of heterotypic synonyms are available. A link to the known
list of both homotypic and heterotypic synonyms is displayed on the Species Fungorum
Record Details page for the current name record.
The taxonomic opinions which lead to the synonymy displayed are derived from the
sources indicated (also see Acknowledgements). They
are not necessarily authoritative for this taxon globally. For example, they may
be based on regional interpretations (derived from checklists - see British
Fungi) or determined in the absence of a monographic treatment. For examples
of authoratative synonymy see GSD data.
